Cooling Kit
Are water cooling kits for the computer meant for certain types of processors? Or is it interchangeable?
I plan on doing water cooling for a CPU on a PC for a project for college. I have found websites that sell water cooling kits that come with all the parts necessary. My question is though, are these only meant for a certain type of processor (e.g. pentium 3 or amd 64)? Or should they be universal in that regard? The reason I ask is because I'm trying to find an older computer to do this on as I don't want to mess with my primary one, yet I don't know if it would have to be matched with a certain water cooling kit. Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide.
I know a good deal about putting computers together and the different types of processors, just never worked with water cooling components before.
Most after market coolers are universal and should fit a range of Intel and AMD processors. Check the specs of the cooler before you buy it to make sure that it will fit the socket and the processor that you will use it on. You should still use a good thermal grease like "Arctic Silver" to make a better thermal transfer between the processor and the cooling block. You may want to consider a water cooled mobo also if you are planning to overclock this computer. Here is an ASUS mobo which is the brand most builders would use.
